Humans have possible four general blood group types: A, B, AB and O; this classification is derived according to scientists from proteins which are found on the surface of cells which are designed to fight off bacteria and viruses in the human body.

The Rh factor (Rh blood type chart) is a protein that can be present on the surface of red blood cells.

Most people have the Rh factor—they are Rh positive.
Others do not have the Rh factor—they are Rh negative.
